Autumn has finally arrived. The scarves and shawls are out. I’ve several cowls in my rav queue, and I’ve already worn my leather gloves. I also have a pair of lovely purple-with-red-button cuffs from across the ditch from my fairy godmother and my god-puppy, which are getting some mileage at the moment, and will get … Continue reading »

Full of Sound and Fury
I think I can count on one hand the good things that came out of my last relationship. And of those few, the opportunity to really foster my love for classical music is probably the best thing about my time in Australia. I have always loved classical music. It’s harder to get right, and simpler … Continue reading »
Lessons in enforced breaks.
I always feel completely and utterly betrayed when I get sick. Like my body’s failed me on some level or another. Mind you, my body probably feels exactly the same way about my slave-driving ways and this is something along the lines of a showdown at high noon. Clearly, I haven’t left my days of … Continue reading »
lessons learnt.
So Henry is done, the edges have been picked up and a sewn bind-off used for symmetry and elasticity. It took a while. But it’s washed beautifully and is currently blocking to 61″ long and 6″ wide. I’ll steam block it to set it tomorrow. But it is done. And here’s a sneak peek of … Continue reading »
You can’t take the sky from me…
Some of you may have noticed a lack of activity on this blog. This is due to a lack of activity in general. I’ve been feeling ill, drained, exhausted – mentally and physically: and the need to do nothing, compounded with the stress that I have been doing nothing, has not been good for me. … Continue reading »
Lost…
…phd mojo. Ran screaming from piles of notes, articles, medieval Latin and books. Last seen heading in the direction of the ocean. If found, please return immediately to the frazzled PhD student who is quite aimless without it. In other news, the knitting goes slowly. And I’m now on the lookout for a nice, circular … Continue reading »
A little bit older, but not much wiser…
Remember how I cast on that lovely Icarus in the 2ply Touch yarn on the 1st? Well… I’ve had this niggling feeling about it, and seeing the photo of Bells’ beauty last night turned that niggle into a klaxon of warning alarms. I was (and please note the use of the word was) just about … Continue reading »
baby did a bad, bad thing… and i feel like crying.
I did, actually, do a bad, bad, thing. I had a look at the academic (and library and museum) jobs available out there at the moment. Yeah, it looks like I’m going to be all qualified up and have nowhere to go. (Hell, I am already all qualified up, and even if I walked away … Continue reading »
Introspection.
Been watching the rain radar for the ACT and catching up on some blog posts. Suddenly, I feel very alone all over again. I want to go home, but I don’t quite know where home is. The feeling of being almost dispossessed is an odd one… at least I have my yarn and my Magpie. … Continue reading »
FO’s – Mithril, Philgyles and Burnt Oranges.
You know, I love animals – but I really am a dog person. They’re loyal, loveable, protecting, patient, golden hearts wrapped in fur. I’m also allergic to cats. So I’m stuck in a house with two burmese cats that shed like nothing else and love to cover you in purrs and fur. Then yesterday the … Continue reading »
