Woosh! And suddenly the weeks have flown by with a blink of an eye. I’ve been knitting madly, and resting up various injured body parts (and by resting, I mean swimming 1km laps of breaststroke to stop myself going completely insane). Work remains fantastic. I love library work. Almost as much as I love consulting … Continue reading »

“I solemnly swear that I’m up to no good.”
So, I don’t have a Marauder’s Map. But it is July. And Le Tour started with the most unexpected finish to Stage 1. And yes, I was up watching it. Well, watching it, Wimbledon and the Crusader’s systematic annihilation of the Stormers in Cape Town. It was a good night for sport, but I think … Continue reading »
In the right place.
You know you’re in a place you should be, when, walking down Cuba Street at 9 on a Monday night, you see three long, tall slabs of muso. Two are very much in context, and one… well. You haven’t seen the one in years, and it turns out the magnetic pull of the capital has … Continue reading »
Raising the knitting bar.
There is a time in everybody’s life where they do something, step back, look at it, and go “damn, how did I manage that?” (in a good way). I’ve had a few. And they are so few and far between that I can remember them clearly. The competition piece of That Scottish Play I directed, … Continue reading »
lessons learnt.
So Henry is done, the edges have been picked up and a sewn bind-off used for symmetry and elasticity. It took a while. But it’s washed beautifully and is currently blocking to 61″ long and 6″ wide. I’ll steam block it to set it tomorrow. But it is done. And here’s a sneak peek of … Continue reading »
All wrapped in the bones of the setting sun…
It has been a dark day in New Zealand. I came back from lunch to find out that there’d been another quake. Some terse hours followed as I, along with most of my colleagues, waited for news of friends and family. Luckily all those I know appear to be safe. But with the mounting death … Continue reading »
Contact, at last! And a little independence to add to the mix.
So I’ve been in gainful employment for a week. I’ve been in the city for just under two. And my modem finally arrived. I believe my relapsed caffeine addiction is directly in proportion to the lack of internet I’ve had at home. That has all changed. It’s been a fantastic evening of pizza, tiramisu, admiring … Continue reading »
I was writing, thinking with my longhand…
….and back! You didn’t think I’d disappeared again, did you? Yes? I’m sorry. I need to do something about that. Let’s just say I’ve been busy. There has been knitting! Tomas #1 was on and off the needles in record time (3 days, I think), and despite the candy-cane striping of the Needlefood “Eat your … Continue reading »
Notes on a year…
2010 has been a turbulent year. Well, one of changes anyway. Drastic changes. It’s been a year when I’ve really had to find out who I am and what I’m really like. I’m happy to say that I’m not actually that bad. Possibly a tad too serious at times and prone to caution, but those … Continue reading »
And then there were ten…
Shawl #10 had very definite ideas about what it wanted to be. 5 different patterns were frogged before the yarn and I had a long, hard talk about what exactly it was looking for in a pattern before we agreed on the Traveling Woman shawl. I didn’t think it’d take that long to knit, but … Continue reading »
